IFBA's Strategic Planning Meeting
  Terence Taylor participated in the IFBA's strategic planning meeting that took place in Ottawa, Canada on August 30-31.
 
“The Politics of Hard Times: Citizens, Nations, and the International System under Economic Stress.”
  Terence Taylor will participate in a panel discussion at the 106th Annual Meeting of APSA on September 2-5, 2010, in Washington, D.C. This year's theme is “The Politics of Hard Times: Citizens, Nations, and the International System under Economic Stress.”
 

International Advisory Group

The International Advisory Group on Biosafety and Biosecurity (IAG) is a standing group of experts that meets at least once a year. Members are experts in biosafety, infectious disease surveillance, biosecurity and public policy. They come from the following countries: Russia, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, U.S.A., UK, Sweden, Germany, Japan, Singapore and Canada. Representatives from the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and the World Health Organization (WHO) also participate.

Main Objectives of the Group  

  • To increase awareness of the importance of biosafety and biosecurity within the scientific community, government, industry (public private cooperation) and society more broadly.
  • To review, assess, and offer the expertise of national and international programs in biosecurity and biosafety according to international standards.
  • To provide recommendations for use by federal agencies and other international entities as needed, on programs and activities to improve biosafety and biosecurity and enhance national and international security.
  • To assist, as needed, to help implement new programs and activities.

Method of Operation

  • Review and provide advice on biosecurity and biosafety programs and training curricula and elaborate recommendations to appropriate entities as required.
  • To review, assess, and offer the expertise of national and international programs in biosecurity and biosafety according to international standards.
  • Promote international cooperation between Russian and international experts through national and international conferences, workshops, round-tables and other activities.
  • To cooperate with and provide information to federal ministries, agencies, bodies and educational entities on biosecurity and biosafety issues.

The ICLS, in collaboration with the Global Partnership Program of Foreign Affairs Canada, the International Science and Technology Center, the Moscow Medical Academy and NP TEMPO, formed the IAG on biosafety and biosecurity in November 2006.
